Kicking off the new Kiwanis Year - with new ideas
The East Boston Kiwanis Club last month installed the new officers and directors for the 2011-2012 club administrative year, which runs from October 1, 2011 to Sept. 30, 2012. Club President Ed Coletta also announced that the club would be going to a new meeting schedule, with regular club meetings being held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, starting at 6 p.m. in Spinelli's Function Hall, in Day Square, East Boston. The board of directors meetings will now be held on the second Tuesday of each month, starting at 6 p.m.; locations will vary, but the October 11 board meeting will be held at the East Boston Savings Bank offices on Meridian Street, just outside of Maverick Square. Instead of a regular meeting on the fourth Tuesdays of the month, the club will take part in service projects within the East Boston community. More details of those projects are listed on our "Events & Activities" page on this site... check it out!

New Kiwanis Club member John Schwagerl will be the club's guest speaker at the Oct. 4 meeting, and he will talk about the current real estate market in the Greater Boston area and home foreclosure issues.

The club's guest speaker for the Oct. 18 meeting at Spinelli's will be State Senator Anthony Petruccelli of East Boston, and he will talk abou the state legislature's push to approve casino gambling in Massachusetts and how that will effect the Suffolks Downs site in East Boston/Revere. Guests are welcome at these club meetings, just contact a club member or call me, club president Ed Coletta at
